Agriculture and equine

Yanco Agricultural High School has a rich tradition in Agriculture, in both practical areas and classroom learning. The school also now offers equine and horse management studies as part of the curriculum.

Students studying both Agriculture and equine have the opportunities to gain widely regarded practical experience in their chosen areas, and are able to achieve recognised vocational qualifications while at school.

The study of agriculture is a compulsory core subject for all students in Year 7 to Year 10, and students can choose to study Agriculture or Vocational Education and Training Primary Industries as a HSC subject in senior years.

An important aspect of agriculture within the school is the farm, and the operation of the Yanco Shorthorn Stud, McCaughey Limousin Stud, the Yanco Shorthorn Stud and the Yanco White Suffolk Sheep Stud.

The school's cattle and sheep show teams continue to earn praise for their quality of exhibition. Students also gain experience with poultry and in the school's piggery.

In recent years the equine and equestrian program at Yanco Agricultural High School has been gaining momentum.

Students can study equine and horse management courses beginning in Year 9 and Year 10. Students participating in these subjects can also keep a horse at school, dependent upon stable availability, and take an active role in caring for their animal.

They have access to a world class arena, jumps paddock and riding areas, and can participate in the school's equestrian team which events at shows, gymkhanas and other prominent events.
