A typical weekday
A typical day at Yanco Agricultural High School (YAHS) starts for students around 6.30am and concludes between 9pm and 10.30pm each evening.
Wake Up
A student’s day begins around 6:30am when they get up, shower, dress for the school day, make their bed, tidy their area and complete any other tasks assigned to them.
Students on stock duties and/or with a horse will have to complete associated tasks before breakfast.
Breakfast
Students must attend breakfast and have their name marked off on the roll.
It is mandatory for all boarders to attend each meal.
Students are to move in an orderly fashion to and in the Dining Room.
All students are responsible for cleaning their meal area.
During this time, students must take any dirty clothes to the laundry (Monday to Friday).
Students requiring medication in the morning are to attend the Health Centre before returning to their dormitory.
Students are to return to their dormitories for cleaning teeth, preparing for the day and undertaking inspection.
Inspection will happen after breakfast every morning. (Bed made, area tidy, in correct school uniform for school days)
Inspection
1. Students: correctly attired in uniform, buttons & ties done up, shoes/boots polished, hair combed, face hands etc. washed and clean; clothing clean, pressed and neat.
2. Dorms: windows open, bins emptied, doors open.
3. Beds: Students must use mattress protector, sheets, and make their bed. Doonas are allowed neatly over the sheets.
4. Lockers and gear neat, no unnecessary gear or clothing lying around, towels on bed ends or locker handles, washing in laundry bag.
5. Common Rooms, corridors, verandas are to be clean and tidy, bins empty.
On Fridays: Beds are to be stripped and fresh sheets and/or quilt cover placed at the end of the bed.
At the conclusion of inspection, students should vacate their dorm, except for Seniors who are permitted to remain until 8:25.
Leave Dorms
Phones are to be locked away in a student’s own locker.
Students must be out of the dormitory building with all of their equipment for the school day.
Dormitories are locked and students are not allowed back into the dormitory until the end of the school day.
Classes start
The YAHS school day starts with assembly and roll call or CREW at 8:30am.
Students must be on time for assembly/CREW every day.
Recess
Morning tea is distributed in the dining room
Lunch 1
All students have lunch in the dining room.
Students must remain in the dining room for the announcements and dismissed for second half of lunch
Lunch 2
Students may remain in the dining room or utilise the school facilities.
Classes end
Students collect clean clothes from the laundry and put them away.
Students take their school bag up to the dorms.
Students get changed into casual clothes.
Students encouraged to go out and join an activity.
Activities
Students may participate in a range of activities including: leisure activities, training, stock, library or study time.
Prep
This is the time for students to do their homework, assignments, study, tutorials or read. Prep is supervised by teaching and duty staff.
Supper
Junior students participate in ‘down time’ in the dormitories having supper and a quieter time in their recreation rooms and dormitories before getting ready for bed.
Senior students continue their prep time.
Prepare for bed
Students prepare for the next day, prepare for bed.
Students are to have their clothing neatly stored, properly folded and clean; boots and shoes are polished and stored tidily; no food stuffs left lying about, area tidy, recreation rooms clean, school bag packed for the next day and school uniform ready for the next day, etc.
Juniors are to secure their phones, laptops and portable electronic devices turned off, on the charger and secured in their allocated technology locker 15 minutes before their allocated lights out time.

Boarding at our school
All students at Yanco Agricultural High School are boarders with approximately 350 students (boys and girls) residing at the school for 40 weeks of the year.
