Supervision and support

Staff supervise and provide support for students in the residential setting 7 days a week throughout the school term.

A number of staff live in residence within the dormitory areas and on the school grounds and provide around the clock passive supervision, emergency access and counselling, including the Head Teachers Welfare, Deputy Principal Residential and Principal.

Deputy Principal Residential

The role of Deputy Principal Residential, requires commitment 24/7 to manage the daily operations of the Residential School and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of boarders.

The Deputy Principal Residential supervises the complex daily schedule for boarders, including mealtimes, laundry, homework (preparation time known as prep), sporting and recreational activities, to ensure all runs smoothly seven days a week.

Head Teachers Wellbeing

Yanco Agricultural High School has two Head Teachers Welfare who are responsible for all wellbeing-oriented programs within the residential and day school and provide leadership for Year Coordinators and the Wellbeing Team.

The Welfare Head Teachers are located in the school’s Wellbeing Hub with the rest of our wellbeing support team including School Psychologist, Student Support Officer and Career’s Advisor.

Year Advisors
Year Advisors are a focal part of the school’s welfare network and regarded as a “parent proxy” for students.
Recreational Officer
The Recreational Officer organises and coordinates sporting and recreational activities, for students seven days a week.

Dormitory prefects

Year 11 Prefects have added responsibilities to perform in the school. Our Prefects provide crucial positive modelling for the expected behaviour of Yanco students.

Each dormitory (Years 7 - 11) is directly supported by a Year 11 Prefect. The Dormitory Prefects have the responsibility of being a leader and role model for younger students. It is a privilege to be a prefect and a great responsibility.

It is the responsibility of the Dorm Prefect to keep good order within their dormitory, to guide students in their care to abide by the school rules, live cleanly and harmoniously, and contribute to school life. Boarders in turn have a responsibility to comply with reasonable requests made by their prefect and to behave in a manner that ensures the well-being of each member of the dormitory.

Prefects are required to refer incidences of persistent misbehaviour or major offences to staff. The prefects are supported in their role by the Duty Staff, Year Coordinators, Head Teachers Welfare and Senior Executive.

Security

During school terms, when boarders are in residence, licensed security officers are on duty overnight from 10.30pm to 7am providing security for the school and hostel. They provide assistance to students, Residential Supervision staff and Health Centre staff, as well as patrolling the school and grounds.
