Student leave
Students must take leave when they go home for the school holidays and designated leave weekends. Students may also need to take leave from school at other times. All student leave must be approved in advance and students need to be signed out before departing.
Overnight Leave
Leave for overnight stays during the week is only available when with parents and should be used sparingly. A standard REACH Leave Application is to be submitted and approved before overnight leave can be taken.
Host Leave
Students wishing to go on leave on weekdays after school with adults other than their parents/carers (the Host) must have an approved leave application in REACH prior to the leave event.
The following conditions apply for boarders seeking to take leave on weekends, in conjunction with Approval and General Conditions of Leave
Leave on weekends may be during the day, overnight or school-based. Parents may wish to take their child on day or overnight leave on a weekend, or may wish to approve them going on day or overnight leave with another family (hosts).
Leave is mandatory for School Holidays periods and Leave Weekends (Designated or Desi).
A leave application needs to be submitted through REACH for the school holidays (including the summer holidays) and the designated leave weekends.
Yanco Agricultural High School students get to enjoy one leave weekend each term, usually in week 5. This gives them the opportunity to spend time at home with families. This compulsory designated leave weekend each term, is arranged so that most students can spend an entire weekend at home. Normally these weekends will enable students to travel on the Thursday after school or Friday morning (by 9am) and return in time for the commencement of lessons on the Tuesday. Late evening meals are available on the day of return.
Students returning to school from leave weekends or holidays using private transport are reminded that the school does not open until 4:00pm and that they should register their return at the duty office prior to entering dormitories.
For weekend leave, a REACH Leave Application must be submitted and approved, generally by Wednesday (latest is before 9am Friday). In exceptional circumstances late leave applications may be accepted.
Where students are visiting another family, the host family must be added to the REACH application. This guarantees that all parents have knowledge of the leave and have contacted each other.
For day or overnight weekend leave with Parents or Hosts, a REACH Leave Application must be submitted and approved prior to arriving at the school to collect the student.
If the Leave application with a Host is received after this time the Duty Staff will communicate with the Executive on Call prior to permitting the leave.
All leave for students must be approved per the following procedure, which is based around REACH Leave Applications.
Leave Applications in REACH are submitted by parents and approval is undertaken by authorised school staff.
Leave may be permitted once a valid and approved REACH Leave Application has been processed, and if:
- it does not interfere with normal schooling or other commitments that students have to the school (eg. sport or farm duties),
- students are on an appropriate level, and
- it is for a special, community or personal reasons.
The Leave Coordinator will discuss any requests for emergency leave with the Principal or Executive on Call, who may approve without following the above process.
Parents or Hosts must be present with the student when they are signed out of the school.
All adults, including parents and hosts, who are granted permission to take students out, assume full responsibility for the student's care and wellbeing from the time of signing out until she/he is signed back in.
