Student Wellbeing
Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students. At Yanco, our focus on student success and wellbeing is also emphasised in the residential aspects of Boarding School, focusing on overall wellbeing across all aspects of our school.
The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.
The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.

PBS
At our school, we use the foundations of Positive Behaviour for Learning although, our students have rebranded this as Positive Behaviour for Success (PBS) – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students in regular PBS sessions.
Through Positive Behaviour for Success, we teach our students the behaviours we wish to see, implementing activities for students to practise these behaviours and modelling these behaviours by staff members. The core values of Yanco Agricultural High School PBS are:
Pride
Respect
Responsibility
The Yanco Way
In conjunction with PBS, we have created The Yanco Way. The Yanco Way is a set of expectations that directly link to our school values and expectations. The Yanco Way promotes positive behaviour and Relationships across the whole school.
These values are displayed around the school and in the dormitory areas, to reinforce our values and expectations.
These short and sharp expectations are easily understood by our students and the visuals are a gentle reminder for all students and staff of what we expect and pride ourselves on.

We continue to embed and deliver the Resilience Project to all students in Years 7-12.
The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs to schools, sports clubs and businesses, providing practical, evidence-based mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness among not just students but everyone.
Through the presentations and school curriculum The Resilience Project shares the benefits of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, and easy ways to practise these in everyday life. The program also incorporates Emotional Literacy, Connection and Physical Health education and activities as they are foundational contributors to positive mental health.
Here at Yanco, we believe the GEM principles are an important aspect of building and promoting resilience amongst our students and supporting their mental health and wellbeing.
