The first round of lambing has begun for McCaughey White Suffolk Stud at YAHS. Pictured are Year 11 Agriculture students, Laura Harris and Emma Gale, with the first set of triplets, which were born to a maiden ewe. All lambs are tagged with electronic tags at birth, along with weights, birth type, pedigree and other data recorded for LAMBPLAN, an electronic database used to compare the genetic merit of meat sheep across different flocks for economically important traits. Primary Industries students are rostered onto lambing duty, where they must check the ewes in the morning and evening and tag and weigh new lambs, which goes towards achievement of their competencies.
