YAHS Centenary

A century of Yanco Agricultural High School (1922 – 2022)

Yanco Agricultural High School celebrates its centenary in 2022. Opened in 1922, the school was NSW’s second Agricultural High and is situated on 257 hectares of land bordering the Murrumbidgee River in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.

Created out the former North Yanco property of grazier and irrigator, Sir Samuel McCaughey, it is the only fully residential NSW public school.

McCaughey’s grand, two storey North Yanco homestead contains magnificent stained-glass windows on two levels, a huge staircase, wide verandas, high ceilings and large casement windows along with tessellated ceramic tiles throughout the building and on verandas outside. Once used for student accommodation, the North Yanco homestead now houses school administration.
